2016 Build-A-Boat Challenge “Event Profile”

Since 1993, ASNE-Tidewater has organized, sponsored and conducted the Quick & Dirty Boat Building Contest, now known as the ASNE-Sikaflex Challenge Ultimate Build-a-Boat Contest. This year the competition will be held during Harborfest at Town Point Park in Norfolk, Virginia. ASNE supplies each two-person team with three sheets of lauan, Sikaflex-291 Marine Adhesive/Sealant, several eight-foot lengths of 1x2 and 2x2 boards, and zip ties to facilitate stitch-and-glue construction. Teams are required to provide their own tools. The Challenge requires of the teams their best design ability, building quickness and seamanship for a fun weekend. The teams compete against each other and the clock, building their boats on Saturday and conducting Sea Trials in a race on Sunday.
